Breast screening

Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) offers important advantages for women and their primary care providers, including recruitment, recall and follow-up and ongoing quality assurance. All OBSP sites are accredited with the Canadian Association of Radiologists Mammography Accreditation Program. OBSP sites help women with an abnormal screen to move through the diagnostic phase.

Some OBSP screening sites, like the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre, are affiliated with breast assessment services, ensuring timely, coordinated assessment of women with abnormal mammograms.

The eight OBSP screening sites in Waterloo Wellington are:

  • Offer annual screening mammography and breast MRI for women who have been confirmed to be at high risk for breast cancer;

  • Facilitate follow-up breast assessment services for women who require extra tests;

  • Eligibility criteria – significant personal or family history of breast or ovarian cancer, previous chest radiation, known genetic mutation carrier, or first degree relative of a known genetic mutation carrier

Physicians with patients suspected of being at high risk for breast cancer can refer their patients to the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre using the OBSP High Risk referral form
