It's Weedless Wednesday: Support your patients to quit smoking
National Non-Smoking Week is an effort to inform and educate Canadians about the dangers of tobacco use, to reduce exposure to second-hand smoke, and to support those who currently use tobacco to quit.
This week (and every week!) is a great time to talk to your patients about the dangers of smoke, regardless of its source. Smoke is smoke, whether it comes from tobacco, cannabis or from a hookah pipe and the best defense is to limit exposure to smoke.
Today is Weedless Wednesday during National Non-Smoking Week. Smokers are urged to refrain from smoking on this day. The intention is to kick start the process of quitting smoking with a one day at a time approach.
Cancer Care Ontario supports the 3A’s approach to a brief tobacco intervention:
ASK patients about their tobacco use
ADVISE them in a personally relevant way that quitting is one of the most important things they can do
ACT take action! Refer the person for more intensive support to help them quit smoking. See below for resources offering intensive tobacco cessation support…FREE!
